Riverside exploded for eight goals on Monday, including four by Heidi Garcich and two by Jenny LeBlanc as the Rebels took a home victory over Independence, 8-1.
Riverside coach Daniel Waguespack implored his Lady Rebels (1-2) to show more aggressiveness on the field, and they stepped up to the challenge in his eyes.
“We were much more aggressive,” said Waguespack. “Our passes were more crisp, much more than in our last game. That’s the main reason we were able to excel.”
Garcich added two assists to her four goals. Shelby DeSlatte also scored, and Katherine Gonzales added a goal and an assist.
The Rebels wasted no time getting on the board. Garcich scored 35 seconds into the game after stealing an Independence pass. She dribbled through everyone and shot it past the goalkeeper.
Defensively, Riverside was able to protect its net very effectively. Waguespack noted one of his top defenders as Lauren Falgoust, saying she was key to the victory.
“She made a lot of big plays to keep the ball out of our end,” said Waguespack.
