Complaint from woman leads to dismissal
LAPLACE – Lt. Allan Wayne Schaeffer, a 16-year veteran of the St. John Sheriff’s Office, was terminated Wednesday by Sheriff Wayne Jones after an extensive investigation concerning the detective’s conduct.
Schaeffer, a highly respected member of the Sheriff’s Office, was initially suspended with pay after information was received from a preliminary status conference with Louisiana State Police regarding a report on a complaint from a female acquaintance.
After meeting with the District Attorney’s Office, Jones said that the information, which he could not elaborate further on, was sufficient in his mind to warrant the firing of Schaeffer.
“The charges were clearly in violation of the Rules and Regulations for the administration of the St. John Sheriff’s Office,” Jones said.
The sheriff said he received a call from a female acquaintance of Schaeffer, who indicated Schaeffer allegedly committed serious allegations against her.
Jones contacted the Louisiana State Police, to ensure an independent investigation, and turned the matter over to them.
Jones has requested that the District Attorney’s Office convene a grand jury within the next 60 days to hear the case.
