LAPLACE-St. John Parish will begin enforcing an ordinance on Oct. 22 that was passed by the council to remove “junked vehicles” from public right-of-ways and private properties on October 22, 2007.
According to the ordinance, a “junked vehicle” is any vehicle that does not have a current vehicle registration, an inspection sticker or if the vehicle is unable to move under its own power or has not been moved for 60 days.
A code enforcement officer will be dispatched to tag the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle then has 60 days to bring the car up to an acceptable standard or to remove it.
If the owner fails to comply, the Office of Public Works will then remove the vehicle.
