LAPLACE – The St. John The Baptist Parish Bureau of Narcotics Investigation arrested a Texas couple in LaPlace on Saturday as part of an ongoing investigation involving the New Orleans Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Maj. Mike Tregre, spokesperson for the St. John Sheriff’s Office said the arrests are the culmination of a month long, multi-jurisdictional operation in which over 100 pounds of marijuana was seized from the couple. Tregre said the drugs garnered a street value of around $100,000.
Kedrick Lacour, 39, 1003 Pisa Ct., Pearland, TX, and Shastri Singh, 33, 607 Iowa St., South Houston, TX, were both booked into the St. John Parish Correctional Facility on Saturday and charged with possession of 60 to 2000 pounds of marijuana. Both have been released on bond, which was set at $75,000 for each suspect.
According to sources in the bureau, Lacour and Singh regularly used the area of US 51 and I-10 as a meeting place where large drug transactions were regularly made. The two also were reputed to be involved in regularly transporting large amounts of marijuana along the I-10 corridor from Texas throughout Louisiana.
