With district play beginning for Riverside in two weeks, Rebels Coach Toni Miano is having to shuffle her lineup a bit more than she’d like.
Injuries have made such adjustments a necessity at a point in the year where coaches like to see their teams rounding into form.
The good news? Riverside hasn’t missed a beat. The Rebels defeated Lutheran at home on Tuesday in four games, 26-24, 22-25, 25-21, and 25-18. Riverside beat Ponchatoula on the road last Saturday, also in four games, 25-17, 25-17, 26-28 and 25-11. The wins move Riverside to 12-1 this season.
Miano’s adjustments included moving setter Jessica Price into the injured Heidi Garcich’s outside hitter position, and shifting Ashley Forstall to setter.
“Both players have stepped up to the challenge, and they are doing a great job,” said Miano.
Miano also praised the play of senior Marci Millet, who has consistently produced for the Rebels this season.
“She remains strong for us,” said Miano.
Millet was a major thorn in the side of Lutheran, after leading the Rebels in kills with 26 and digs with 41. Abby Becnel led the team with two aces. Kaitlyn Millet led the way with two blocks, and Ashley Forstall had 27 assists.
In last Saturday’s game at Ponchatoula, Price had a big day with five aces and 27 assists, both team leaders. Marci Millet again led the way in kills with 20. Kaitlyn Millet had four blocks, and Aimee Williamson had 21 digs.
Riverside resumes play today, traveling to East Ascension. The game will begin at 10 a.m.
