The question of whether Hahnville would ever give up a point this season was answered on Friday night against Helen Cox, who was able to get into the endzone.
Of course, holding a team to sox that had scored 50 one-week prior is no small feat.
Hahnville remained undefeated Friday night, hosting and defeating Helen Cox handily, by a 35-6 score.
“It went pretty much the same way as the previous two games,” said Hahnville Coach Lou Valdin. “We played well defensively, and in the second half, we got the offense going.
Nathan Lewis, Danzell Lockett and Bryce Jacobs led a defense that blanketed the Cougars (1-2) all night, allowing only 218 total yards to an explosive offensive.
Offensively, running back Greg Julien led the way for Hahnville (3-0)with 25 carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Lauren White had 75 yards on seven carries, and Jai Steib rushed for 43 yards on seven carries with a touchdown.
B.J. Young was 10-18 for 141 yards, a touchdown and an interception, and also ran for 33 yards on four carries.
“We turned it over a few times and had some penalties. That was the only thing that really slowed down the offense,” Valdin said. “The run game really stepped it up in the second half. The good thing about having a few running backs is it keeps fresh legs going late.”
The game was scoreless until Julien scored on a 5-yard run with 9:41 left in the second quarter, making it 7-0.
Young found White for a big play with 3:53 left in the half, a 56-yard touchdown catch and run, making it 14-0.
At the 9:47 mark of the fourth, Julien scored for the second time, a 13-yard run that made it 21-6. A 63-yard Ivory Washington punt return shortly after made it 28-6.
Finally, Steib scored from eight yards out to make it a 35-6 game.
