HAHNVILLE – A 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old juvenile were arrested Thursday in connection with two armed robberies at the ATM of a Destrehan bank.
St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said Isaac David, 19, 244 Meadows Dr., Destrehan, was booked with two counts of armed robbery, and one count of principal to attempted first-degree murder. David is being held on $1 million bond at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Hahnville.
David’s 15-year-old accomplice, whose name was not released, was charged with two counts of armed robbery, one count of attempted first-degree murder, and one count of illegal possession of a firearm. He is being held at the St. James Juvenile Facility.
Officials with the St. Charles Sheriff’s office said that in both cases, the suspects preyed on victims using the ATM after 10 p.m. at the Capital One Bank branch at 13524 River Road, near the intersection of River Oaks Drive.
Champagne said the first incident occurred this past Monday when a customer using the ATM left his bank card and cash in the machine and fled to a nearby gas station to call police after seeing two men, one carrying a gun, climbing over a fence on the side of the bank building.
Champagne said the second incident took place shortly after 11 p.m. the following Tuesday when a 23-year-old Destrehan man, making a deposit at the ATM, was approached by one of the suspects armed with a gun. The victim was able to push the suspect away and get into his vehicle. As the victim drove away, the suspect shot at the vehicle, but did not injure the victim. The victim returned to his home where he then notified the Sheriff’s office.
Investigators said that in both incidents, someone appeared to be acting as a lookout in the rear of the Popeyes Fried Chicken restaurant adjacent to the bank.
Since the incidents occurred within a day of each other, officials with the Sheriff’s office said that Champagne made it clear that the investigation needed to be swift and aggressive. He said that the investigation is ongoing, and that more arrests will be made in connection with the robberies. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 985-783-1135.
