LAPLACE – When a LaPlace resident failed to get any response to his complaints about a neighbor’s barking dogs, he reportedly took matters into his own hands by throwing a wad of dog food stuffed with rat poison into his neighbor’s yard.
Unfortunately for the attacker but fortunately for the six toy poodles, the neighbor happened to be looking out the window when he allegedly committed his heartless misdeed.
The neighbor ran outside to lock up the toy poodles when he recognized the numerous green pellets in the food as rat poison and called the St. John Sheriff’s Office at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
The officer arrived at the 2900 block of Sherwood Drive to gather the dog food and interview the neighbor, who reportedly jittered in response to the officer’s questions and said at one point that the dogs were constantly barking and his many past complaints went unanswered.
Rat poison causes hemorrhaging in dogs because it interferes with the bloods ability to form clots, although the animals generally only die if they are untreated for a long period of time after ingesting the poison.
No one has been arrested in the incident pending an investigation and analysis of the dog food’s contents.
