Vacherie Elementary completes roofing system

CONVENT- The Vacherie Elementary School has completed the new cafeteria roof system. St. James Parish School Board voted to disburse $48,150 o Reynolds and Company fro work completed by the company. Approximately 90 percent of the cost has now been paid to the contractor. The cafeteria roof is one of five improvement projects currently underway in the parish.

One of those projects is the varsity baseball field for St. James High School, which is currently about 30 percent complete. The field has received dirt and has currently begun building fencing at this time. The payment to Gen-Con totaled $133,794.

Upgrades to the Sewerage Treatment are being made at Romeville Elementary and Vacherie Primary and are halfway near completion. The two sewerage upgrade payments equaled $58,266 at Romeville Elementary and $50,888 at Vacherie Primary.

The two new athletic facilities at both Lutcher and St. James High School required the board to pay out a total of $95,383.

In other business, students who participated in the parish physical fitness meet were honored and a proposal was introduced that would allow a special election to be held on July 21. The voters would be asked choose on whether or not to approve the issuance of bonds and incurring of debt to fund school system needs.
