The Rebels took the district runner-up spot in 10-2A again this season, taking a 9-5 win over John Curtis, and finished up the regular season schedule with their final non-district game of the regular season against St. Martin’s last Saturday where Riverside played it close until a burst of offense in the top of the sixth.

The baseball post-season brackets are set to be announced next week with post-season play set to open next Tuesday with the finals set for May 9.

Last Friday’s victory over the Patriots started it all off as Riverside and Curtis entered the game both tied at 7-3 in district and vying for the runner-up spot behind St. Charles. Donny Terrio got the start and held the Patriots in check despite giving up nine hits on the day. The Rebel defense helped by committing just one error through the full seven innings while Curtis wasn’t so lucky, notching up five errors throughout.

Terrio and Cavin Richmond led the charge at the plate, each recording two hits and two RBIs in the game. Jade Falgoust and Remi Poirrier both added a hit in the win.

That clinched the runner-up spot for the Rebels entering the open of the playoffs next week. Riverside made a quick turnaround and closed out the regular season schedule the following day when they hosted St. Martin’s in an 8-3 final. There, Wade Delauneville had the big day, taking the win from the mound and hitting a grand slam in the bottoam of the third inning to break a 2-2 tie. Richmond and Remi Poirrier also contributed to the cause with two hits apiece in the game.

The wins put the Rebels all even in the record department with a 14-14-2 season total, 8-4 in district. Stropolo said that his team may face a tougher route through the post-season this time around, but they will work hard to defend their state title.

&#8220When you win it all, you’re not going to sneak up on anybody,” he said. &#8220We’ve seen a lot of good pitchers this year for just that reason. And we’ll see a few more before this is all over with. But you can only take it one game at a time so we’ll have to wait and see where the second seed starts us off.”
