LAPLACE – A St. Rose man allegedly broke into an ex-girlfriend’s home in a fit of rage and beat her into submission late Sunday night, then led officers on a high speed chase throughout LaPlace, ignoring traffic laws and nearly hitting several pedestrians, the St. John Sheriff’s Office reported.

For his role in the event, officers charged Bryant Rising, 39, of 22 Riverwood Ave. in St. Rose, with aggravated burglary by committing battery, simple criminal damage to property, aggravated flight from an officer – leaving the roadway, domestic abuse battery, traffic control signals, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and second degree battery.

The incident reportedly started at 11:15 p.m., when Rising called the victim’s phone and slammed on the door of her home on the 2400 block of Yorketowne Drive when she refused to answer, then started kicking the door to force it open.

The woman called the police and as she spoke with dispatch the door flew open and Rising rushed towards her, grabbed her and threw her to the ground.

He broke her nose with one of the many punches he threw against her face, then drug her outside and kicked and punched her before fleeing in his white Chevrolet Tahoe.

An officer at the corner of Highway 61 and Cambridge Drive saw Rising’s Tahoe speeding southbound on Cambridge Drive and tried to pull him over, but he accelerated and turned left onto Airline Highway, blowing through two red lights until he u-turned to try to get back onto Cambridge Drive.

Rising headed westbound on Airline Highway and swerved his Tahoe onto the shoulder of the road to avoid a roadblock, then turned into a gas station at the corner of Airline Highway and Cambridge Drive to dodge another roadblock, forcing a number of pedestrians to flee the area to avoid being struck by his car.

With officers still hot on his tail, he finally brought his Tahoe to a stop at 613 Penn Dr. and gave himself up at 11:31 p.m.

Rising was booked at the Sherman Walker Correctional Center for the previously listed charges.

His victim treated at River Parishes Hospital with a broken nose and numerous cuts and abrasions.
