RESERVE – Two arrests were made last week by the St. John Sheriff’s Office in connection to a gathering of men firing weapons in the 200 block of East 13th Street in Reserve.
Ken Bardell, 25, of 183 S. Church St. in Garyville and Owen Barney, 25, of 117 Sherman Walker St. in Garyville, were both booked for assault by drive by shooting and aggravated criminal damage. Bardell was also arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and probation violation.
Bardell and Barney are being held at the St. John Correctional Center, with $205,000 and $80,000 bonds, respectively.
The men were part of one of two groups that participated in a standoff late last Monday.
Nearby residents heard an argument on the street before gunshots filled the night sky. Barney was struck in the shoulder by a bullet and drove himself to River Parishes Hospital. The St. John Sheriff’s Office reported that there were no other injuries.
The men quickly scattered before police arrived, but Sgt. Dane Clement reports that the information provided by neighborhood residents has resolved the situation, leading to these two arrests and several more to come.
