RESERVE – A Lundi Gras game between Reserve Christian and St. Charles closed out local regular season play with a non-district match-up where the Eagles took a 69-61 win over the Comets thanks to a big third quarter.
With that, RCS heads into the playoffs on a good note, as they will open the bi-district round with a home game against Assembly Christian. St. Charles will head to Rapides as the 10-2A runner-up behind St. James.
On Monday night, the Comets were in control during the first half and went into the break with a seven point lead. But with a 26-16 run in the third quarter, Reserve Christian reversed the momentum, taking the lead and using a strict defense to hold on in the fourth for a 69-61 Eagle win.
Eddren McCain and Cedric Jenkins led Reserve Christian in the victory with double digit point totals, McCain with 26 and Jenkins with 16. After scoring 26 points through the first two quarters of play, the Eagles matched that in the eight minutes of the third quarter. With a three point lead, RCS held the advantage through the final period, outscoring the Comets 17-13.
It looked good for St. Charles early though, as the Comets took a four point lead after one quarter, pushing it to seven by halftime. But the Eagles came out strong and accurate after the break and hustled up the lead and the eventual win.
Jonathan Bonura led SCC’s effort with 17 points while Austin Martin and Damarcus Bernard each added a dozen. The loss leaves the Comets at a 16-14 record going into the playoffs. Reserve Christian ends the regular season with a record of 26-13 after going undefeated through 10-C play for the district title.
