LAPLACE – Attacking someone minutes after being released from jail is an expectedly quick way to end up back behind bars, but a LaPlace woman who allegedly did just that was able to escape arrest by the St. John Sheriff’s Office for the last 11 months.

On March 16, 2006, Nakiethia Duhe, 24, was released from the St. John Correctional Center and allegedly headed straight to Tiyeeka Cornish’s apartment on Joe Parquet Circle in LaPlace, despite Cornish’s restraining order against Duhe for previous criminal acts.

Duhe confronted Cornish and smacked her in the head with a stick, opening up a gash on her forehead, according to the St. John Sheriff’s Office.

Duhe fled the scene and was on the lam since the day of the incident.

Police tracked her down and arrested her Thursday on a warrant for aggravated battery. She is being held at the St. John Correctional Center with a $10,000 bond.
