Man robbed as he sat at convenience store

GARYVILLE- Police have located a suspect in a Garyville shooting that occurred on December 15.

According to SJSO report, a 25-year-old Reserve man was seated in his car in the parking lot of the Fast Stop Discount on the north side of the business when a subject approached him and asked to use his cell phone.

&#8220When the man began to give the suspect the phone, the suspect retrieved a handgun from his person and attempted to rob the victim. During the robbery attempt the suspect fired a shot at the victim,” said Mike Tregre, spokesman for St. John Sheriff’s Office.

&#8220The gunman was successful and took a ring that was described as a gold band with diamonds and an undisclosed amount of cash,” he said.

&#8220The shot struck the victim in the hip but the man was alert and able to communicate with officers. The man was transported to Elmwood Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance for treatment and released,” Tregre said.

The gunman escaped the scene on foot.

According to the report, the suspect, Timothy Braxton, 17, of Garyville came under suspicion when officers found out the nickname of the gunman. Braxton was later positively identified in a photographic lineup and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Another tip to police advised that Braxton had been seen in the passenger seat of a vehicle on Hwy. 51 in LaPlace based on a description provided.

He was taken into custody without incident. His bond was set at $160,000 after being booked with first degree robbery and aggravated battery.
