HAHNVILLE-It was a deadly weekend on the roads of St. Charles Parish as two separate crashes led to the death of three people on Saturday.

&#8220In a three-car crash, on Hwy. 61 the grandmother and mother of a six-year-old were pronounced dead on the scene. The child, who was seated in back, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans,” Joseph Piglia, spokesman for Louisiana Troop B.

&#8220A 1997 Chevy Blazer, driven by Florence Adams, 64, of New Sarpy, was traveling northbound on East Harding and stopped at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 61 and East Harding. Then for an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevy began to cross the southbound lanes of U.S. 61 and entered the path of a 1989 Ford dump truck, driven by Lawrence Butler, 35, of Gretna which was traveling south on Hwy. 61 in the left lane,” Piglia said.

&#8220As the Chevy entered the path of the dump truck, it was struck and forced into the northbound lanes of Hwy 61 where a second collision occurred. The Chevy struck a Ford F-150, driven by Kendall L. Marbley, 36, of LaPlace after it was hit by the dump truck,” he said.

When troopers arrived on the scene, the driver of the Chevy, Florence Adams and her front passenger, Natasha C. Adams, 28, had sustained fatal injuries.

Marbley was transported to Kenner Regional Hospital with moderate injuries.

It is unknown at this time whether driver impairment was a factor in the crash and results are pending a toxicology examination.

In a separate incident on Saturday in St. Rose, police are investigating a two-car fatal crash involving a 2006 Honda Ridgeline, driven by Michael J. Stein, 45, of Norco and a 1996 Ford Ranger driven by Mark Hebda, 50, of Metairie.

&#8220The two vehicles were traveling northbound on U.S. 61 when the Honda, traveling in the right lane, drifted to the left lane where the Ford was approaching the Honda from behind,” Piglia said.

According to a police report issued by state troopers, the driver of the Honda, Stein, entered the left lane in front of the Ford truck and was struck from behind. The Ford then careened off of the roadway into a drainage ditch on the right side of the roadway and was submerged in water.

When troopers arrived they pronounced that the driver of the Ford, Mark Hebda, had died at the scene of the crash.

Stein was charged with a DWI and careless operation of a motor vehicle. Further charges are pending toxicology exams.

Police are awaiting results of toxicology exams for Hebda at this time.
