RESERVE — Reserve Christian’s newest Eagle soccer team is learning on the fly this year.

For the sixth and seventh games of their season schedule, RCS played a double-header against Riverside this past week where they took a few lumps in the growing process but impressed head coach Steve Aicard.

&#8220We’ve got some little guys out there, some of them in seventh and eighth grade,” Aicard said. &#8220But I’ve never seen our forwards take that many shots on goal as they did tonight…. We’ve got so much time to grow, by the time these guys get to be upperclassmen, they’ll be ready to go.”

In their game last Thursday, it was Jesse LeBlanc of Riverside who stood in their way as he scored six of the Rebels nine goals in a shutout of the Eagles. LeBlanc added three more in Monday’s game, a 6-0 Rebel victory.

Monday’s game was a scheduled home game for the Eagles, but their own home field won’t be ready to play on for this season. So Riverside gave up their own home field, the gate and even listed themselves as visitors in the Monday game, despite the fact that it was played at Riverside.

&#8220We’ve got a long way alright,” said Aicard.

&#8220But these kids are working hard everyday at getting better. They practice hard and they’re figuring it all out.”

The two teams are now set for the break, but are looking at setting up one more non-district match-up to keep the teams sharp heading out of the holiday break.
