St. James sweeps WSJ

EDGARD — St. James got the better of West St. John last Tuesday as the boys squad took a 70-61 Wildcat win and the girls picked up a 56-36 win.

For the boys game, the Wildcats worked out a 15 point lead by halftime and held off a second half Rams push to take the victory.

St. James’ Charles Geason led all scorers in the boys game with 20 points while Raynard Thomas led the Rams with 18.

The win puts the Wildcats at 8-8 on the season while the Rams are still adjusting to the early season, falling to 0-4.

The girls game went quickly in favor of St. James as the Lady Wildcats took a 29-14 lead by halftime and stretched it to 20 points by the end of the fourth quarter. Brandy Jefferey led St. James with 21 points and Anika Duronselet added eight. Jada Fiffie and Destani Commini led the Lady Rams in the effort with 19 and 10 respectively.

Next up for West St. John, a road game against Reserve Christian next Tuesday in the Eagle’s nest. The WSJ girls stand at 4-4 on the season heading into an away game at Cabrini.
