LAPLACE — St. Charles broke even this week with a win against Crescent City Tuesday and a loss to Archbishop Hannan on Thursday.

The Comets were led in the Tuesday win by Austin Martin’s 25 points en route to an 88-44. Jonathan Bonura had 23.

The Tuesday game was never in doubt as the Comets took a 41-21 lead by halftime and never looked back. Just to be sure, they outscored Crescent City 25-7 in the third and kept pace with them throughout the fourth.

In Thursday’s game, SCC fell behind in a low scoring game and trailed by nine in the third. They regained some momentum in the fourth, but Hannan pulled back away in the final two minutes for a 52-44 win.

Martin again led the Comets in the effort with 21 points while Jonathan Bonura added 13.

The Comets moved to 2-7 on the season, but are still waiting for football season to conclude before getting their full complement of starters.

The St. Charles girls, meanwhile, fell to 5-4 on the season with a 72-43 loss to Ursuline on Tuesday.

A slow start for the Lady Comets found them with a 36-12 deficit by halftime. The gap grew in the third period before the SCC squad finally got it in gear, doubling their offensive output in the final quarter. But the Ursuline offense kept St. Charles in check as the Lady Lions went to 8-3 on the year.

Brooke Becker led the Lady Comets in the effort with 23 points. Michelle Marzoni added seven while Meghan Pecoraro got five.

Next up, the SCC girl’s squad hosts Country Day on Tuesday.
