LAPLACE-The man responsible for fatally injuring a man in a hit and run accident in LaPlace has turned himself in to state police.

Damien Foy, 29, of LaPlace, gave himself up on Thursday approximately 30 minutes after the crash, which occurred about 6:52 p.m.

Trooper Joseph Piglia, spokesperson for Troop B, said the accident involved a 2006 Dodge Charger, driven by Foy, a 1996 Honda Civic, driven by David Dennis Jr. and a pedestrian.

&#8220The Dodge was traveling northbound on U.S. 61 at which time the Honda was stopped in the left lane of U.S. 61 due to traffic congestion. The driver of the Dodge then illegally passed the Honda which was stopped in the left turning lane striking Percy Johnson, a pedestrian,’ said Piglia.

&#8220Johnson had been standing in the median opening of U.S 61 waiting for the traffic to clear so he could cross. He was then thrown into the air and struck the rear windshield of the Honda and came to rest in the northbound lanes of U.S. 61,” he said.

The Dodge fled the area and Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Foy was arrested and booked at the St. John Parish Jail for vehicular homicide, driving while impaired, hit and run and careless operation.

Master Trooper Chris Maurin is continuing his investigation.
