Woman loses arm in River Road crash

LAPLACE- A woman who was involved in a single vehicle accident lost her arm after her vehicle veered off the road and hit a stationary railroad car.

Robin Kirkland, 28, was traveling eastbound on LA 628 from LaPlace to St. Charles Parish when for unknown reasons her vehicle crossed the center line of River Road and into the westbound lane. After entering the westbound lane, her vehicle veered off the road and struck a metal fence, a stationary railroad car and came to rest.

As a result of the collision, the driver’s left arm was dismembered. The victim was transported to the Medical Center of Louisiana at Elmwood in serious condition.

&#8220She is reported to be in stable condition now and her injuries were not life threatening,” said Sgt. Chaves Cammon of the Louisiana State Police Troop B.

The driver was charged with careless operation of a vehicle, no driver’s license and switched license plate.

There were two children ages seven and two in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Both children were transported to River Parishes Hospital and are in stable condition. The children were restrained at the time of the accident.
