LAPLACE-If you were going down the Airline Highway on Saturday, you may have noticed lots of busy people on the roads cleaning our community.

Reserve Christian church held their first ever clean-up event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Raymond Goodman, a spokesperson for Reserve Christian said that this is the first time they have attempted a clean-up like this.

&#8220We are doing it as part of an outreach program to help the community, we are doing our best to help the community,” he said.

The clean-up was part of a joint effort with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office to make the community a better place.

&#8220We saw the need to work with the Sheriff’s Office to put the program together and in the process we beatified the community,” he said.

Reserve Christian had approximately 40 volunteers out to help with the clean-up that stretched three to four miles from East St. John High School to Hwy. 51. Clean-up crews were out on both sides of the road to pick up the trash.

&#8220We probably picked up more than 100 bags of trash in the area and we believe the event was a huge success. Everyone had such positive energy with a good response and some even honked when they saw us out cleaning,” Goodman said.

While this may be the first time that Reserve Christian has held a clean-up event it will not be the last.

&#8220We plan to hold an event like this periodically because it gives us a great chance to serve and help the people of the community,” Goodman said.
