Woman, 39, dies in Boutte auto crash

BOUTTE – A single vehicle automobile accident claimed the life of Casandra K. Lomax, 39, of Marrero on Sunday, October 22, at 12:54 p.m. The fatal accident occurred on U.S. 90 near the fresh water diversion pond.

The crash involved a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro, which was traveling westbound on U.S. 90 in the right lane at which time for an unknown reason the vehicle exited the right side of the roadway and struck two trees. The vehicle then rotated counter clockwise and came to rest in the tree line. The driver was partially ejected during the crash and Lomax suffered fatal injuries, pronounced dead on the scene.

The passenger in the front seat of the vehicle was a four-year-old black female. The youngster was totally ejected from the vehicle while in her child safety seat and received minor injuries.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and speed is not a factor in the crash and it is unknown if driver impairment is a factor. Toxicology results are pending.
