LAPLACE – St. Charles Comets fans had much to smile about Friday night. The weather was cool and breezy, it was homecoming, and their football team trounced the visiting Ben Franklin Falcons, who have struggled all season, 42-0 in a non-district game.

It didn’t take the Comets (7-1,1-1) long to get rolling against the Falcons (1-7,0-1) scoring on their second offensive play of the game. Junior running back Jonathan Cancienne rushed for 35 yards on two plays to put the Comets up 7-0 after the Chris Ilski extra point. Cancienne would see the end zone again after a Falcons turnover recovered by senior Garrett Biven.

The Comets put up 28 points in the first quarter and most of the starters sat in the second half, but they would add one more touchdown in the second quarter before giving some of the junior varsity squad field time.

The Comets started their last scoring drive of the first half past midfield on the Falcons side following a 15-yard punt return by Cancienne. 2 plays later, freshman Cody Scioneaux scored his first touchdown capping off a perfect first half for the Comets.

St. Charles heads to reserve on Friday to take on the Riverside Rebels (3-5,0-3) in a big district rivalry matchup.
