LAPLACE – St. Charles volleyball netted a second district win in their third match-up, sweeping St. James Thursday afternoon by scores of

Gina Monica got things started early with the Comets’ first serve and scored several more times with lob shots that found exposed court on the St. James defenders. The Lady Wildcats, led by Brianne Gros in the match, made a game of it in the first one by capitalizing on their opportunities. But SCC proved too much to handle as they took the opening win.

The Lady Comets retained control through the second and third games to roll up the win behind the performances of Monica, Lauren Coniglio, Katie Tregre and Brooke Becker.

Defensively, SCC leaned on a combination of Coniglio and Gustafason at the net with Ashley Trosclair and Tregre doing much of the digging.

Gros led the Lady Wildcats in the effort with strong offensive and defensive play.

St. Charles now stands at 2-1 in district play, and is set to play in the Country Day tournament this weekend in Metairie. The Lady Comets hit the road this Tuesday for their second district tilt against John Curtis. SCC won the first meeting in four games.
