It was a battle of two teams searching for their first win of the season Friday night when West St. John welcomed White Castle to their friendly confines for a district opening rout.

It took the Rams (1-5,1-0) only one play from scrimmage to get the scoring started in their 54-9 victory over White Castle (1-5, 0-1) in front of the homecoming crowd. Running back Daron Bartholomew took his first carry for 62 yards and the touchdown. Bartholomew also tacked on the two-point conversion to give the Rams an 8-0 lead with only 20 seconds removed from the game clock.

The Bulldogs tried to bounce back on the following possession but found out early that West St. John was not going to lose on this night. Rams defensive back Eric Pixley would quickly dash any hopes of the Bulldogs finishing their first drive with a score when he intercepted quarterback John Morris’ pass at the Bulldogs 32 yard line.

Bartholomew quickly added 6 more points with a 32-yard blast into the endzone immediately following the Pixley interception.

It would be all West St. John in the first half, Bartholomew in particular, as they went on to score 46 points through the first two quarters holding White Castle scoreless on 40 total offensive yards.

Romell Howard would add the final Rams score of the night catching a 35-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Wade Laiche.

Bartholomew rushed for five touchdowns total in the first half adding three more rushing scores to extend the Rams lead on his way to 241 total yards on 13 carries. Bartholomew, who only played the first half, is looking to duplicate his performance against a tough St. John of Plaquemine team at home Friday.
