Elections scheduled today

LAPLACE – Election time is upon the River Parishes once again today with candidates vying for positions at the state and local level in St. John, St. James, and St. Charles Parishes.

Statewide elections include the race for Secretary of State in which seven candidates face off for the position held by incumbent Al Ater who is not running. Voters will also choose an Insurance Commissioner from three candidates, two of which are running against incumbent James J. &#8220Jim” Donelon (R).

St. John voters will choose between District 7 Parish Council candidates Cheryl Millet (D) or Duaine Duffy (R), filling the seat currently held by Jimmy Hymel, who was appointed to the position, but has elected not to run.

Seven of the 11 School Board members are running unopposed leaving voters to select school board members in Districts 2, 4, 8, and 11.

St. James voters will be electing school board members in districts 1,5,6, and 7. Gramercy residents will be taking to the polls to elect the positions of Mayor, Chief of Police, and Alderman in districts 2,3 and at-large.

Lutcher residents will also be selecting candidates for Mayor, Chief of Police and Alderman in District 1, Divisions A and B.

St. Charles voters will be choosing school board members in districts 1,2,3,7, and 8 in addition to elections at the state level.
