LAPLACE – The St. John Community Center, which is currently playing host to a major Paramount Studios production, was a focal point of discussion for the Economic Development Committee meeting Monday as it will hold a grand opening Friday in LaPlace.

The grand opening Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. John Community Center, 2900 Hwy. 51, will be open to the public and attendees will be able to enjoy dishes such as pastalaya, jambalaya, and other refreshments available for purchase.

The event will also include a ribbon cutting with Parish President Nickie Monica scheduled to attend, according to St. John Director of Economic Development Julia Remondet.

While the finishing touches are being put on the grand opening for one of St. John’s newest structures, the committee also discussed possibly finding parish owned land to use as a new site for the parish Andouille Festival, which is held in October. Remondet said the committee is currently discussing the idea of a permanent site for the fest and even if approved by the council, the earliest the festival would move is 2007.
