The St. John Sheriff’s Office SORT team, the local version of a SWAT squad, answered a call recently in a LaPlace neighborhood when a call came in that a man was threatening to kill himself. The man, in his 30s, had apparently been involved in a domestic dispute, leading to the threat. The SORT team responded in full gear and secured the block, getting all neighbors away from the home since weapons were involved. Capt. Octavio Gonzales, (top left) seen here talking at the scene, said the call came in shortly after 9 a.m., and his squad secured the neighborhood, then slowly defused the situation without incident before the man gave himself up. A charge of disturbing the peace was made, but fortunately no injuries occurred to anyone.
