GRAMERCY — A pedestrian was left critically injured after a car lost control and hit a 61-year-old Gramercy woman early Sunday morning.
According to Trooper Rodney Hyatt, spokesman for Louisiana State Police Troop C, Ethel Isom was walking east on the eastbound shoulder of LA 643 around midnight when she was struck.
Hyatt said Henry Domino, 68, of Vacherie, was traveling east on LA 643 near LA 20 in Vacherie when the accident occurred.
“Domino was in a 2001 Chevrolet truck,” Hyatt said. “Due to driver error, he left the road to the right, struck a mailbox and then hit Ethel Isom.”
Domino was the only person in the vehicle. He was wearing his seatbelt and did not receive any injuries during the crash.
“Isom received critical injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance,” Hyatt said. “Alcohol use is unknown.”
Hyatt said blood tests have been conducted, and the results are pending, as well are the charges in the crash.
