With district championship already in hand, the ESJ LadyCats hit the road last week and ended the regular season when they took on McDonogh 35 in a non-district match-up that went for a 54-44 loss.

The East St. John squad struggled through the first two quarters, going into the break 25-17, and couldn’t close the gap in the second half. Crystal Fleming kept it close and helped to close the gap to five points going into the final period with her team-high 14 points in the game, but McDonogh put up 19 in the fourth to get their sixth win of their hurricane-shortened season schedule.

Clemetrise Bell got 11 points in the game while Stasha Thomas added nine. McDonogh’s Thompson led all scorers in the game with 19.

The ESJ boys squad hasn’t played since last Tuesday when they dropped a game to Ehret, who now leads them by a single win in district. With games against West Jefferson and Destrehan still on the schedule, a pair of wins for East St. John, coupled with another loss by Ehret in their final regular season game could move the Wildcats up into a tie for second place in district 5-5A.

The Wildcats were scheduled to take on Destrehan in Reserve last night, but that score was unavailable as of presstime.
