Seventeen former LSU football players are on rosters of NFL teams who made it to the league’s playoffs, including five on the two-time defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots squad.

Of the 17 Tigers in the NFL playoffs, seven held down starting roles for their respective teams during the opening round of the playoffs.  

The Patriots roster includes defensive tackle Jarvis Green, defensive end Marquise Hill, linebacker Eric Alexander, defensive back Randall Gay and running back Kevin Faulk. The Patriots travel to face the Denver Broncos in the divisional playoffs on Saturday.

In New England’s win over Jacksonville, Faulk led the Patriots with 51 yards rushing on six carries. He also caught four passes for 45 yards. Defensively, Green recorded a pair of tackles for New England in the victory.

Other former Tigers who are still alive in the playoffs include defensive back Ryan Clark and tight end Robert Royal with the Washington Redskins, offensive lineman Brandon Winey with the Carolina Panthers and offensive lineman Alan Faneca with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Clark and Royal both started in Washington’s 17-10 win over Tampa Bay. Clark recorded seven tackles, while Royal didn’t record any statistics. For the Bucs, Anthony McFarland registered a pair of tackles, while wide receiver Michael Clayton didn’t play due to a foot injury.

Former LSU cornerbacks Corey Webster and Tory James both had big games in losing efforts for their respective teams. Webster, who started at cornerback for the Giants, posted seven tackles in New York’s 23-0 loss to Carolina, while James had seven tackles in a starting role in Cincinnati’s 31-17 setback to the Steelers.
