LAPLACE — An unidentified pedestrian was struck on US 61 at Emmit Court in LaPlace Friday night in an attempt to cross the road resulting in near fatal injuries.

The Louisiana State Police Troop B Lieutenant Chris Bodet said the pedestrian was a Hispanic male in his mid-20’s and was trying to cross the road to the west, when he was struck by a 2005 Kia driven by Lyle Gray of Reserve.

According to Bodet, Gray was traveling &#8220northbound in the right lane at 55 mph in the 55 mph zone.

Investigation shows that the crash was unavoidable by Mr. Gray as the pedestrian appears to be highly intoxicated.”

The pedestrian received severe injuries and was treated at River Parish Hospital. The pedestrian is believed to be residing in LaPlace and an identification is still pending.

Bodet said anyone with information about the accident or the victim, should contact LSP Troop B at (504) 471-2775.
