LAPLACE – In an effort to keep residents and roadways of St. John and St Charles parishes safe, each sheriff is participating in a program offering local residents rides home, should they be too impaired to drive from their holiday function.

Sheriff Greg Champagne of St. Charles Parish encourages all residents who plan to attend parties and consume alcohol to get a ride home with one of their deputies. The number to call for the ride home is (985) 783-6807.

Sheriff Wayne L. Jones of St. John Parish is offering a similar program to its residents who may have had a few too many at their holiday bash.

St John residents impaired by alcohol can call (985) 652-6338 and either a deputy will bring them home or the sheriff’s office will contact a family member to give them a ride.

Both Sheriffs Champagne and Jones want people to know, if you choose not to accept this offer and instead drive impaired, expect a ride to jail, not home.
