MANCHAC — A crash that occurred Saturday night on Interstate 55 claimed the life of a New Orleans man, after he was ejected from his vehicle and then dragged 100 feet by another vehicle.

Arthur Isaac Monroe, 22, was driving northbound on I-55 in the right lane, at a high rate of speed.

&#8220The van veered left, struck the left bridge rail, and overturned several times, ejecting the driver into the left lane and coming to rest on the left bridge rail,” said Trooper Omar Landrum, public information officer for the Louisiana State Police. &#8220A witness pulled onto the right shoulder and reported the crash.”

While the one vehicle pulled to report the crash, a 2000 Ford Mustang driven by Curt R. Hinson, 21, of Holden, apparently did not notice Monroe lying in the middle of the road.

&#8220Hinson subsequently struck the ejected driver and dragged him approximately 100 feet, Landrum said. &#8220The ejected driver died on scene.”

Landrum said two other vehicles also approached the scene, but were able to move into the left lane. They both, however, struck debris from the crash.

Drivers of the other two vehicle were Brittney Obiol, 19, of Metairie, and Kirk A. Perilloux, 39, of Harahan, according to Landrum.

Speed was a factor in the crash, and Monroe was not wearing a seatbelt. It has yet to be determined if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
