Two men nabbed for ‘test-firing’ gun from car in LaPlace

LAPLACE — Two New Orleans men were arrested in LaPlace recently after firing a weapon from a vehicle and for possessing marijuana and Xanax.

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested James Cordier, 27, and Clyde Green, 25, after a motorists witnessed the gunshot and flagged down an officer on Belle Terre Blvd. on Dec. 11.

&#8220One of our officers were stopped at a traffic light on Belle Terre Boulevard, when he was flagged down by a vehicle going south on Belle Terre,” said Maj. Mike Tregre Spokesman for the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office. &#8220The witness claimed a white Ford pickup truck was approaching Fairway and had fired a weapon out of a moving vehicle, when exiting off Belle Terre Boulevard.”

The officer made a traffic stop on Belle Terre near Fairway, and ordered the driver and the passenger out of the vehicle. The officer found 21 Xanax pills in the passenger’s possession and a small amount of marijuana inside the vehicle, according to Tregre.

&#8220A 13-year old boy was riding in the back seat,” Tregre said. &#8220A handgun was also found lodged in between the driver and passenger seat.”

Tregre said the two claimed they were test-firing the gun. Cordier and Green are being held at the Sherman Walker Correctional Center, Cordier on a $53,500 bond and Green on a $26,000 bond, set by Judge Sterling Snowdy.
