LAPLACE- The Lady Comets made it look easy against ESJ in soccer last Tuesday night, with a 7-0 victory at St. Charles to give the Lady Cats their first loss of the season.

SCC’s Reyna Lubin and Taylor Prindle led their team in the win, combining for four goals in a blazing second half of play that gashed the Lady Cats.

&#8220The girls felt really confident and pumped up coming into tonight’s game,” SCC Coach Rob Burns said after the match.

Midway through the first half, Emily Bourgeios scored the first goal to put the Lady Comets on top. With 17:25 remaining in the first half, Angela Suarez broke past the last ESJ defender and scored St. Charles’ second goal of the night.

ESJ attempted to rebound with an aggressive attack on the SCC goal, but goalie Jeena Poche turned away any hopes of a Wildcat goal in the first half with good protection at the Lady Comet net.

The Lady Cats started the second half dominating in ball possession and threatened to score, but Katie Fisse stole the ESJ momentum by scoring the third goal for SCC with 23:15 remaining in the game.

SCC took advantage of some controversial calls against ESJ by exploding offensively and keeping the Lady Cat defenders on their heels as Prindle put the game out of reach with the fourth goal for SCC with 17:40 left. Prindle scored once more to tally two goals for the match and Lubin scored twice against the already weary ESJ defenders.

&#8220We’re going to put this game behind us and concentrate on our next game,” ESJ Coach Jason Beeber said after the game. ESJ will return to action when they are scheduled to play Morgan City in an away game this Thursday.

&#8220The game really went well,” Burns stated of his squad’s victory. &#8220We played as a team and were able to control the ball in the air as well as the ground and I think that was the big difference for tonight’s game.”

With the win, the Lady Comets went to 3-3-2 overall and were scheduled to travel to Destrehan for a re-match against the Lady Cats this Thursday. SCC came away with a 1-0 win in the first game which was played on December 8 at St. Charles.
