Two cases in five days found in St. Charles

DES ALLEMANDS — The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office made a second arrest in five days of a man charged with animal cruelty, after animal control picked up an extremely thin dog.

St. Charles Animal Control recently picked up an English Mastiff Dog that was running at large, according to Capt. Pat Yoes, public information officer with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian and was reported to have been underweight. Blood was in the dog’s stool and it was infested with hookworms.

About four days later, Brandon Breaux, 31 of Des Allemands showed up at the animal shelter, identifying himself as the owner of the dog, according to Yoes.

Breaux was then arrested, because of the dog’s poor medical condition. He was taken to the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center where he was placed on a $5,000 bond set by Judge Emile St. Pierre.

Breaux posted bail, and his return court date is set for Dec. 15, according to information provided by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The first arrest occurred on Nov. 23 of Derwin Walker, of New Sarpy on 12 counts of cruelty of animals, rabies inoculation and Pit Bull registration. He was using the dogs for fighting, and two of the dogs had to be euthanized due to serious wounds. Walker was also had several charges of drug violations.
