‘Tweetie’ scores 163 points in four game stretch to set tourney record

BATON ROUGE– Reserve Christian’s Demond “Tweetie” Carter was named the Tournament MVP for the Woodlawn Shootout this week after averaging 41 points per game in a four game outing.
The scoring statistics for Carter came against some of the best talent in the state as the Eagles went head up against Christian Life, who is ranked at number 6 in the state by pelicanpreps.com.
Through four games, Reserve Christian had dispatched Robert E. Lee 97-45, Northside 67-65, and Christian Life 89-86.
In the Northside game, the Eagles faced up against the number one ranked team of the tournament, but upset the Vikings in a see-saw battle that came down to the final seconds. Carter netted 28 points in the game while hampered by a fever and junior Kevin Branch picked up the slack with 27 points of his own.
“We beat a great team,” said Eagles coach Timmy Byrd. “It was a great game. It just kept going back and forth the whole time.
The game against Christian Life was also a remarkable showing, one where Carter showed his talent again, posting 47 points and eight assists with zero turnovers.
“I don’t think that a single one of [Carter’s] shots went uncontested,” said Byrd. “Well, I take that back. There was a shot from 40 feet at the end of a quarter that was uncontested. They put their 6-7” kid on him through the fourth quarter.”
After advancing to the championship game against Helen Cox, the Eagles had difficulties keeping up in their fifth game in five days. Carter left the game early because of a knee injury, and Reserve Christian fell 75-64.
Carter finished the tournament with 163 points scored, which set a benchmark at the Woodlawn tournament that will likely stand for years.
The Eagles returned right back into action in an out-of-state tournament in Forrest City, Arizona. The Rumble on the Ridge will wrap up play today and Reserve Christian will return Monday with a home game against H.L. Bourgeois at 7:30.
