St. James woman dies in crash

ST. JAMES – A 53-year-old St. James woman was killed in a two vehicle crash in Lafourche Parish on Wednesday morning. She was pronounced dead at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, the driver and third passenger left with minor injuries.

Louisiana State Police reported at approximately 11 a.m. Lee Prosperie, 24 of Montegut, was driving eastbound in a 2006 Dodge pick up truck owned by the Lafourche Parish Government.

He was stopped in the roadway waiting to turn left into the senior center when, due to driver error, he turned into the path of an oncoming westbound vehicle, driven by Shelly Bye, 31 of St. James, according to LSP.

Connie Bye, 53 was the front seat passenger, and Damon Webre, 33 of Gramercy, was sitting in the rear passenger seat.

All individuals involved were wearing their seatbelts, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but charges in the crash are pending the completion of the investigation.
