LAFAYETTE– Hahnville sent the number one seed in the 5A playoff bracket home early with an upset victory over Denham Springs in just four games on Thursday.

The state volleyball tournament, which is being staged this year at Comeaux High School in Lafayette instead of the Ponchatrain Center, saw the 16 seeded Tigers dispatch the Denham Yellow Jackets after the first two games went to the wire with a 25-23 victory by Hahnville followed by a 26-24 win by the opponent. The second game was a rubber match that was tied up twice late, but was kept alive with match points for the eventual Denham win.

Hahnville, who finished second in their district, ended a 27 match win streak by Denham when they took the final two games in convincing fashion by scores of 25-16 and 25-11. The Tiger offense came alive in that third game when Trashan Glenn posted two kills in a six point run after the score had been tied at 13. After that, the Tigers never even looked back. The final game was broken open on a run of 12 consecutive points early on and Hahnville never let up.

Ashonte Pryer led the Tigers in the victory with a game high 19 kills.
