HAMMOND– With the ninth seed, SCC traveled to Hammond for the playoffs and recorded an upset against eighth ranked St. Thomas Aquinas on Monday.

The match-up brought the Lady Comets into a hostile environment where they won three-games-to-one. After dropping the opening game, SCC got on track to win out in three close straight.

Led at the net by Amanda Savoy’s 11 kills, the Lady Comets took the lead for the first time in the third game where they jumped out to a 9-3 lead. St. Charles increased that margin to eight before St. Thomas Aquinas rallied to take it to a 24-24 tie. But the Lady Comets scored two straight points to close out the game.

SCC rode the momentum to start out the fourth game ahead by a score of 13-5. Again, St. Thomas Aquinas rallied, and brought it to within four at an SCC game point. But the Lady Comets pulled out a win with a team effort. Leading that effort statistically, Clement scored 18 points with 12 aces and six kills, to go with her defensive performance of 16 digs. Trege added three aces and four kills and Monica set up 14 assists.

The win advances SCC to the regional round of the 2A division match-up in Shreveport today, where they will face top-seeded St. Martin’s at 10 a.m.
