METAIRIE– The Rebels (6-3, 2-1) took it to the road Thursday night to put a damper on East Jefferson’s (3-2, 1-0) homecoming game, walking away with their sixth victory of the season, 21-7.

Riverside jumped out on top first, on a 1-yard A.J. Delauneville burst on their second possesion of the game.

The 6-0 lead would last for most of the game because of some stiff defense on both sides of the ball. The Rebels inched closer to opening up the gap on a 40-plus yard drive that was fumbled away after a 20-yard rumble by running back Jarid Caesar.

After halftime, Riverside successfully put pressure on the quarterback, with several body-rocking sacks by senior Kevin Bourg and sophomore B.J. Jacob.

No one could find the end zone again until the fourth quarter when senior Lee Haydel pulled in a 16-yard Delaneuville pass and senior Timmy Stein nabbed a reception on the two point conversion. The score was the go-ahead run for a 14-0 lead.

West Jefferson answered back to keep themselves in the game with a 75-yard drive that was finished off with a 12-yard touchdown pass and an extra point to bring it within a score at 14-7 with 7:45 left in the game.

Less than a minute later, Jarid Caesar broke free for a 63-yard run resulting in a score. Following the extra point, Riverside had to hold off one more East Jeff possession that was turned over on downs to run out the clock for the 21-7 final.

Casaer led the attack, rushing 19 times for over 140 yards including the final touchdown, a 63-yard scamper that put the game out of reach for West Jeff.
