DESTREHAN — The Destrehan Wildcats (7-0,3-0) remain undefeated this season thanks in large part to quarterback Jai Euene and running back Raynor Derkins, who combined for 278 yards.

Also, thanks to their defense, which allowed only 188 yards of total offense, holding the West Jefferson Buccaneers (2-2,1-2) out of the end zone last Friday night for a 24-10 district victory.

The Wildcats stumbled out of the gates early when West Jeff linebacker Ivan Weber picked up a muffed punt and returned it 33-yards for a 7-0 Destrehan lead.

The Wildcats went on the offensive in the next quarter, rambling downfield on a 44-yard Eugene to Edwin Reed pass connection that was punched in by Derkins for his first score of the day and a 7-7 tie.

On the very next possession, Destrehan cornerback Joshua Victorian picked off a pass that set up another sustained drive of 75-yards and a 14-0 score. The second half was a defensive showdown in which Ehret could muster only a field goal to hand the Bucs their second district loss of the season.

Next week, Destrehan travels to Hahnville to take on the 6-1 Tigers.
