SCC Comets split pair to Covington, John Curtis Patriots

LAPLACE — The St. Charles Comets split their matches this past week, defeating Covington earlier on Tuesday and then falling short against John Curtis Thursday afternoon bring their record to 5-10 overall and 0-1 in district.

Rachel McConnell and Megan Venture served an awesome 13 aces but errors made for a long afternoon for St. Charles Catholic as the visiting John Curtis defeated the Comets three games to one; 25-6 Curtis, 25-20 Comets, 25-8 Curtis, and 25-21 Curtis.

“Several errors put us in situations that we didn’t want to be in,” stated Coach Michelle DeArmitt.

Against John Curtis, Rachel McConnell led the serving with eight aces and 13 assists. Megan Venture served five aces as well as being a defensive presence with 14 digs. Allie Stropolo and Abbie Mirambelle hammered 13 kills between them. Allie Stropolo also had eight assists. Sara McConnell led the defense with an awesome 17 digs.

The Comets started the week off strong sweeping Covington three straight games; 25-22, 25-20, 25-18. Gina Monica served three aces and had 12 assists. Amanda Savoie was superb with 12 kills and 12 digs. Mary Clement had three kills and nine assists. Bridget Boe and Katie Tregre had nine digs each.

St. Charles Catholic will face an intense schedule this upcoming week. On Tuesday they will host district rival Riverside. Wednesday they will host Lutcher. Thursday they will travel to St. James for another district game. And then on Saturday they will host DeLaSalle.

Coach DeArmitt stated that they would emphasize and work on their “total game” during practices to prepare for the upcoming schedule.
