Eugene leads the way again as Wildcats win big

DESTREHAN — In Destrehan senior Jai Eugene kept the Wildcats unbeaten with another virtuoso performance, accounting for 208 yards and four scores in six series.

Eugene completed nine of 11 passes for 114 yards including touchdown passes that covered 14 yards to Edwin Reed and 17 to Joshua Martin. He added 94-yards and two more scores on the ground, including a 79-yarder.

Defensively Destrehan limited the visitors to 21 yards in the first half while forcing three turnovers. Defensive back Jerico Nelson scored after recovering an errant option pitch, and Brandon Brexton’s 45-yard interception return set up Eugene’s first scoring run.

Kicker Travis Brignac made all five of his extra-point attempts adn added a 25-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give DHS a 38-0 lead.

South Lafourche scored its lone touchdown ona seven-yard run by quarterback Korte Cheramie in the second half.

Jameryl Lawerence added another 31 yards on seven carries for the Wildcats.

Destrehan will travel Friday to St. James, who topped Varnado 42-6 on Monday.
