GARYVILLE – A 64-year-old LaPlace resident was allegedly held at gunpoint, robbed and crashed his car into a residential home Tuesday night in Garyville.

The victim, whose name is being withheld, said he went to a friend’s house on Albert Street to wait on a blind date.

“I had just got out of a short relationship with a girl who decided to set me up with a blind date,” he said. “I went to my friend’s trailer house, to wait for my blind date. She never did show up, so I went to get in my car and this guy I kind of knew needed a ride home, so I gave him a ride.”

He said while in the car the passenger pulled out a gun and held it to his head demanding money and threatening to kill him if he didn’t.

“I got scared and grabbed the gun with my right hand,” he said. “I tried keeping a hold of it, but I couldn’t do much, because I was driving and I had my seatbelt on.”

While running out of options he drove his car into a house.

“I didn’t know what else to do,” he said. “I felt that if I hit the house people would notice and call help to protect me. After I hit the house he (the passenger) grabbed my wallet and ran off.”

Public Information Officer Maj. Mike Tregre of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said there were witnesses at the scene who helped identify the suspect and an active warrant has been placed for his arrest.
