LULING – Nancy Markey Champagne, 90, a native and resident of Luling, died July 19. She was the wife of the late Ulysses “Buck” Champagne Sr.

She is survived by her children Carolyn C. Jackson, Ulysses Champagne Jr. and Clyde I. Champagne.

She is also survived by her sister Lillian M. Stevenson, daughter-in-law Betty Champagne, grandchildren Arlene Jackson-Williams, Darlene A. Jackson, Wade M. Jackson, Darren, Kenneth and Danielle L. Champagne, granddaughter-in-law Terri Dorothy, great-grandchildren Matthew T. Murray, Cherie L and Shantell P. Williams and sister-in-law Leontine Edgerson and Mathilda Matthews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Nancy Price and Leon Markey, siblings Anaise M. Williams, Florence M. Colly, Florenstine M. Mitchell, Elenora M. Wright, Mary Turner, Leon Jr., Ernest, Dempsey, Joseph and Ralph Markey and sister-in-law Helen C. Markey.

Services were held July 25 at St. Mary Baptist Church, Luling, with interment in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Taft.

DES ALLEMANDS – Charles “Redd” M. Cornwell Jr., 59, a native and resident of Des Allemands, died July 22.

He was the son of Charles Sr. and Mary C. Cornwell.

He is survived by his son Charles “Chuck” Cornwell.

He is also survived by his siblings Grover, Billy, Ben and Robert Cornwell, Margaret Belford and Frances Ponge.

Services were held July 26 at Des Allemands Mennonite Church, Des Allemands, with interment in the church cemetery.

LUTCHER – Dorothy Bartley “Virginia” Gordon, 87, a native of Plaquemine and a resident of Lutcher, died July 21.

She was the wife of the late James Gordon Jr.

She is survived by her children Rudy Gordon, Ruby (Roosevelt) Armont, Gary (Veronica), Percy (Janice), Harold (Janice M.) and Robert (Rosemary) Gordon.

She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 15 great great-grandchildren and niece Jewel Ann Williams.

Preceded in death by her parents Henry and Minty Mosely Bartley and siblings alter Ashe, Isaac and Clarence Bartley.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at King David Baptist Church, Lutcher, with interment in Western Cemetery, Lutcher.

Brazier-Watson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation at the church begins at 9:30 a.m.

NORCO – Elizabeth Laden Guidry, a native of New Haven, Connecticut and a resident of Norco, died July 25.

She was the wife of the late J.R. Roy “Radar” Guidry.

She is survived by her children Elizabeth G. Isbell, Judith G. Vivone, Joseph Roy Guidry, Brian Michael Guidry, Robin G. Clouatre and Stephen Henry Guidry.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Mary Isbell, Christie Beaudry, Stacey Rodgers, Lacey and Brad Guidry, Courtney, Chelsea and Cayla Clouatre.

Services will be held July 30 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Norco.

RESERVE – Albert Harold Murdock, 83, a native of Sherman, Miss. and a resident of Reserve, died July 16. He was the husband of Hazel Labot.

He is survived by his children Johnny Murdock, Patricia Gilley, Barbara Green and Marjorie Smith.

He is also survived by his step-children Danny Bossier, Mona Grinder, Cecile and Rena Webre and Cornelia Bossier and siblings Teanie and Polly Jolly.

There will be a private interment.

GRAMERCY – Edgard “Red” Roussel Jr., a native of Belmont and a resident of Gramercy, died July 22. He was the husband of the late Melanie Ory Roussel.

He is survived by his children Stephany Bourgeois, Melissa Manning and Dawn Roussel.

He is also survived by his siblings Myrtis Millet and Marjorie Becnel and grandchildren Lucas Millet and Amanda Manning.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edgard Sr. and Rose Emma Poche Roussel, his son Dean Roussel and siblings Hazel Babin, Dorothy Hamilton, Hildred Verrett, Hudson, Woodrow, Dorel and Calvin Roussel.

Services held July 26 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gramercy, with interment in St. Joseph Mausoleum, Paulina.

NEW SARPY – Le’Jon Jamine Smith, 14, a native of New Sarpy and a resident of New Orleans, died July 20. She was the daughter of Arnold Ducre and the late Gigi Smith.

She is survived by her siblings Reginald Fallen, Courtlin Ducre, Justinn, Kerionda, Darilyn, Jaziane and Javanti Smith, Neely, Nina and Paloma Ducre.

She is also survived by her grandparents James M. Smith, Aletha and Louis Johnson and Albert Ducre.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Dorothy M. Smith, Lovenia and Henry Williams.

Services were held July 26 at House of Prayer Baptist Church, New Sarpy, with interment in the New Sarpy cemetery.

ST. JAMES – Mary Ann “Ma May” Villavaso, 59, a native and resident of St. James, died July 23. She was the daughter of the late Marie Morris and Mottress L. Villavaso.

She is survived by her children Dwight, Frederick (Brandy), and Robert Villavaso, and Rhoshunda (Charles) Dupard.

She is also survived by her siblings Geraldine v. Hill, Gerald J. Villavaso, Marguire A. Grays, Celestine M. Villavaso, Michael P. Villavaso and Arthur J. Morris, uncle Richard Nelson, aunt Celestine Farris and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Mottress Jr., Maxine and Anthony Villavaso.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, with interment in the church cemetery.

VACHERIE – Agnes Anne Abadie Waguespack, 96, a native and resident of Vacherie, died July 21. She was the wife of the late Alvin Felix Waguespack.

She is survived by her children Zulma (William) Elrod, Katherine (David) Amedee, Bertha (Jimmy) Brock, Jane (Wayne) Becnel, Dr. Hubert (Lynda) Waguespack, Rodney (Catherine) Waguespack, Perry (Anelle) Waguespack and Dr. Philip (Michelle) Waguespack.

She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a sister Elma Abadie Tassin.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Zulma Tregre Abadie, siblings Sister Mary Lucy (Helena Abadie), Elodie Breaud, Amelia Boudreaux, Laure Abadie, Rosa abadie, Lewis, Andre, Faustin, Ozane, Leon and Richard Abadie.

Services were held July 25 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment in the church cemetery.
