Barracudas dominant against Houma and Ellington

LaPLACE-There known as one of the best swim teams in the area.

Earlier this week, they showed off why.

The Larayo Barracudas picked up two victories earlier this week, defeating Ellington, 381-32 and Houma 324.5-223.5.

As has been the case with all of their meets this season, the Barracudas got off to yet another hot start in both meets. Larayo outscored Ellington 99-9 and Houma 73-35 in the opening stroke of freestyle.

Larayo Head Coach Michelle Jensen was very pleased that she was able to get so many swimmers some action in the two meets.

“Ellington is a new team, so they are just starting out,” Jensen said. “We had some good races and our kids swam really well against each other. Against Ellington I was also able to give different kids chances at different strokes. I also let some kids go into the first heat that maybe have not been there too often.

“It was kind of tough having so many meets this week and that was because the Houma meet was a rescheduled meet. Everything went fine against Houma. We were really strong in the younger age groups in this meet.”

Finishing the season undefeated, the Barracudas now advance to the invitational next weekend as the heavy favorite.

“We are going to have to swim very well,” Jensen said. “Our depth could turn out to be an advantage for us in the invitational because of the ability to compete with more swimmers and an added event will help us as well.”
