HAHNVILLE — U. S. Senator David Vitter will pay a visit to St. Charles Parish on Friday afternoon to discuss current issues and public concerns.
The meeting will be open to the public and will be held at the St. Charles Parish Courthouse in Hahnville, and will allow citizens to share views and ask Vitter questions regarding his stance on matters important to Louisiana citizens.
According to Laura Rosche, spokesperson for the senator’s office, Vitter will tailor a portion of his town hall meeting to address concerns specific to the people of St. Charles Parish.
Vitter, who is from Metairie, has a platform that includes strong stances on health care, job creation, coastal restoration and Social Security.
According to Vitter’s office, Sen. Vitter supports expanding the Louis Armstrong Airport, as long the City of New Orleans includes regional governance of the airport from surrounding parishes. It is unclear if he supports the proposed construction of an airport in the Bonnet Carre Spillway.
Vitter recently submitted a bill to the Senate to allow for importation of certain prescription drugs in an effort to lower health care costs.
According to his website, Vitter also has recently joined the CAFTA Action Caucus, acongressional caucus that opposes the Central American Free Trade Agreement, because he believes it will harm the Louisiana sugar industry. Vitter has plans to hold town hall meetings in all 64 of the state’s parishes, as a way of keeping contact with issues impacting residents. The meeting in St. Charles will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., with one held in earlier that morning in Chalmette.
